Canadian Museum of Civilization- Tourism & Marketing Officer in Ottawa!

Posted on June 10, 2010

Yesterday, we highlighted a position at the Canadian Center for Architecture which required the applicant to be fully bilingual. Today, we put the spotlight on another Canadian cultural institution,  where la langue française is more of an asset than prerequisite: located in the nation’s capital and just a short drive down the 401, the Canadian Museum of Civilization is looking to find a suitable candidate to take over the responsibilities of the Tourism and Marketing officer. The position is full-time, for up to a year, and its vacancy was created by an employee on leave. The pay range for the position is between $52,933 and $66,169. This is a unique opportunity for someone with an academic background in marketing or tourism.

The museum holds Canadian human history and the cultural diversity of its people as its dual object of focus. By studying and presenting artifacts from Canadian history,  its aim is to widen public discourse on Canadian identity.

The museum is searching for someone with a degree in Marketing, Tourism, or Communications. In addition, they they are looking for a candidate with knowledge (they don’t specify to what extent) of the following areas: current trends in tourism, marketing as it relates to the cultural sector and the tourism industry, and the key partners in the tourism industry.

This position is not your typical desk job,  as it requires a certain amount of travel (again, they don’t specify to what extent) to various locations in the U.S. and Canada. This sounds like an amazing job for the candidate with the right background!

To apply for this great temporary position, you have to go to the job posting on their website and fill out the application, in addition to uploading your CV. Applications are due by June 30, 2010 at 4:00pm. Here ‘s the link:
