Reprieve- Project Officer in London!

Today’s position, is with the legal action charity, Reprieve, as a Project Officer in their London office! The Project Officer will work on the UN funded Life After Guantanamo project.

The main objective of the Life After Guantanamo project is to facilitate the reintegration of former prisoners of Guantanamo Bay into society. Former prisoners are often forced to settle in a new country where they don’t share the language or culture. Further barriers exist when you consider that they often become pariahs within the communities that they live in.

Essential responsibilities: advocate for the release of Reprieve clients; assess the projected needs of current prisoners; identify countries where former prisoners may settle; build country specific resettlement plans; co-ordinate around the planning of each released prisoner; visit countries to assist resettled former prisoners; help FPs attain financial assistance; work with team to locate new sources of funding.

Qualifications: excellent research, writting and communication skills; excellent organizational skills; ability to balance competing demands; significant planning ability; experience with Muslim communities and managing volunteers would be assets; ability to take initiative and adept to the quickly changing political landscape, as it relates to the resettlement of former prisoners; willingness to travel overseas and work outside of normal business hours; experience working on human rights issues; Arab languages skills, experience working with media for advocacy and public education purposes, and knowledge of international human rights framework would all be considered assets.
