A growing trend among web start-ups is companies that offer discounted rates to services, products, and outings within a particular city. GoodNews.com, a growing competitor, has a very interesting opening currently available: GoodNews.com is seeking a Community Manager for its office in Vancouver!

Everyday people who have signed up for the e-mail notifications receive an offer for a local deal. If a minimum number of people agree to purchase the deal, everyone who signed up for it receives the deal. If the minimum number of people is not met, no one receives the deal and no one is charged. GoodNews.com differentiates itself from its competitors by contributing a portion of the profits to a local cause.

The position will consist of leveraging your well cultivated social networks to deliver an authentic and unique message to those interested within your particular region. You will report to the PR/Marketing Manager, and you’ll have the ability to work both independently and in a team.

Responsibilities: develop programs that not only foster a sense of community but build greater engagement and investment from members while encouraging word-of-mouth sharing for amplified impact on the community; moderate and respond to online campaigns and provide prompt support to community questions and concerns; prospect, plan, nurture and coordinate charity affiliates; analyze campaigns and translate anecdotal or qualitative data into recommendations and plans for revising  social media campaigns; build and maintain a database of key community and influencer contacts; stay up to date on new social media tools, best practices and how other organizations and companies are using these tools so that our company can continue to be an early adopter of these technologies.

What they’re looking for: a Ms./Mr. Social Media Universe; 1-2  years experience in managing communities; Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field; strong network of local influencer contacts and  the ability to leverage those connections; a desire to positively impact your local community; excellent verbal and written communication skills along with strong interpersonal skills; the ability to take on editorial and technical writing as needed; good handle on metrics and content development; can easily switch from creative end to analytic mindset.

Some of the work for this position will be done remotely.
