WestJet’s Up! Magazine – Contributor (Print and Web)

Posted on January 7, 2011

Today’s position: WestJet’s inflight magazine, Up!, welcomes submissions from writers with excellent ideas that their readers would find engaging! Up! is geared towards conveying the joy of travel and discovery.

About Up! in their own words: “with a focus on destinations in Canada, United States, Mexico and the Caribbean, Up! aims to uncover little-known travel gems and explores well-trodden routes with a fresh perspective, all the while providing vital travel info for the busy traveller and her or his family.”

Up! is a multi-platform magazine and as a result they’re constantly looking for all different kinds of pitches. First place to start is by going through previous editions of the inflight mag to get a sense of their tone and where your idea(s) might fit best.

Up! has different submission guidelines depending on whether your pitching your idea for print or for web. For print, figure out which section and city you want to pitch for (the list of sections is available in the print link below). Essentially, what they’re looking for if your pitching for print, is either, short, idea-rich editorial suggestions or longer features (1,200-1,500 words). For web, pieces must be at minimum 300 words and about a particular WestJet destination (or at max, a 4 hour drive from one).

Figured out your idea and how it’ll fit? Great! You can apply by filling out the pitch form with your idea and including links to work samples.
